The World’s First Iontronics Journal, Iontronics, Successfully Holds Its Inaugural Launch Event!

On October 10, 2025, the inaugural editorial board meeting and launch event of the journal Iontronics, organized by OAE Publishing Inc., was successfully held in Beijing. The meeting aimed to efficiently advance the journal's launch and sustainable development, clarify its developmental direction and phased goals, and comprehensively enhance its international academic influence.
The event was attended by eight academicians, including:
- Academician Zhong Lin Wang, Director of the Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Professor Di Wei, Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Professor Liping Wen, Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Professor Ping Yu, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Professor Zhiping Xu, Tsinghua University
In addition, more than forty participants, including Iontronics editorial board members, young editors, and experts from related fields, attended the meeting. The launch event was hosted by Siqing Hu, Vice Publisher of OAE Publishing Inc.
Speech by Professor Di Wei, Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics
Professor Di Wei, Director of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics, warmly welcomed and sincerely thanked all the experts and scholars attending the launch event on behalf of the journal team.
Professor Wei highlighted that Iontronics is China's first-ever journal dedicated to iontronics. Its launch marks a significant milestone in the emerging discipline, signaling its move toward systematic and international development, while carrying the important mission of guiding global academic trends. He emphasized that the journal will continue to focus on strategic discipline planning, innovative development models, interdisciplinary integration, building international influence, and fostering a healthy academic ecosystem and young talent, aiming to establish an open, cutting-edge, and collaborative academic platform.
Concluding his speech with enthusiasm, Professor Wei called on the community: "Let ions be our ink, innovation our paper, and together, let us write the next brilliant chapter of the intelligent era."

Speech by Academician Zhonglin Wang, Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics
Academician Zhonglin Wang, Director of the Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems and Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics, emphasized that the success of Iontronics relies on the joint efforts of every editorial board member, editor, author, and reader. He noted that editorial board members are not only reviewers and editors but also active contributors to the advancement of science.
Academician Wang highlighted that the journal should play a leading role in fields such as energy and sensing, define the direction of disciplinary development, and serve as an academic benchmark. Meanwhile, it should act as a high-quality platform for scholarly exchange, attract top-tier manuscripts, cultivate young researchers, and provide a stage to showcase their scientific talents.

Speech by Mr. Min Fan, CEO of OAE Publishing
Mr. Min Fan, Executive CEO of OAE Publishing, stated that a journal not only serves as a platform for the research community and disciplinary development but also helps stimulate scientific innovation and nurture outstanding scientists who may one day win major natural science awards or become academicians.
He expressed his hope that, under the leadership of Professor Di Wei, the journal can set a model for scientific excellence and guide its growth and development. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Fan congratulated the launch of Iontronics and expressed his expectations for the journal to make significant progress in both disciplinary advancement and international influence.

Introduction to the Company and the Journal
In his remarks, CEO Min Fan reviewed the development history and international strategy of OAE Publishing Inc. He stated that OAE has always been committed to providing high-standard publishing services and fostering a robust academic ecosystem. Vice Publisher, Siqing Hu, introduced the journal Iontronics, noting that its successful launch marks a new era of academic exchange in the field of iontronics research. As a key platform for this cutting-edge interdisciplinary field, Iontronics will cover a wide range of studies, from fundamental science to applied technology.
Looking ahead, the journal aims to become an important window for the exchange of ideas, technological breakthroughs, and industrial translation in iontronics. Researchers worldwide are warmly invited to submit their work and participate in the remarkable development and innovative future of the field.

Editor-in-Chief's Summary
Professor Di Wei, Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics, summarized the significance, vision, and positioning of the journal. He stated that the development directions of Iontronics include: building an international, youthful, and professional editorial board; strengthening academic responsibility to ensure manuscript quality; curating high-impact original research, reviews, and forward-looking perspective articles; establishing an academic community and promoting the "Iontronics Rising Scientist Award" to inspire young researchers; setting clear development goals while maintaining fairness and integrity; and ensuring the internationalization and openness of submissions.
Professor Wei emphasized that Iontronics will build a flagship journal in iontronics with high standards and strategic positioning, and through team collaboration, the empowerment of young talent, and an international approach, will jointly write a brilliant chapter in this emerging discipline.

Presentation of Appointment Letters
At the event, official appointment letters were presented to the newly appointed editorial board members. The appointees come from renowned universities and research institutions in the field of iontronics and related interdisciplinary areas, possessing strong academic expertise and international influence. Their joining will bring new vitality and intellectual support to the journal, further consolidating Iontronics’ academic standing in the international scholarly community.

Keynote Report
Mr. Shihua Liu, Senior Account Manager of Publishing Services at Clarivate, delivered a keynote report titled "Recent Changes in JCR and Their Implications for Journal Development", presenting the main changes in the SCI/ESCI and JCR systems over the past two years. He emphasized that journal development should follow the principles of "quality first, controlled publication volume," with a focus on brand building, precise disciplinary positioning, academic integrity, and multi-dimensional evaluation metrics. His presentation provided data-driven guidance for newly launched journals, helping them grow rapidly and enhance their long-term impact.

Mr. Fuyou Chen, Head of the Journal Classification Table at the Documentation and Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a keynote report titled "Data-Driven Journal Evaluation". He noted that researchers' perceptions of journal reputation are often fixed, making it hard for new journals to gain recognition, and emphasized that quantitative metrics offer growth opportunities. He explained how the CAS journal classification table provides fairer evaluation for interdisciplinary and new journals using methods like pyramid distribution, flagship indicators, and the "Surpassing Index," and highlighted that domestic support programs have integrated Chinese-language journals into the Web of Science while ensuring international fairness.

Discussion Session
At the conclusion of the meeting, the editorial board members engaged in a lively discussion on topics such as the development trends and frontiers of Iontronics, the journal's positioning and distinctive features, development strategies, as well as current research priorities and recent advances, sharing numerous insightful and actionable perspectives and recommendations.
