Bio
Prof. Perihan Kurt-Karakus received her PhD at the University of Lancaster with Prof. Kevin C. Jones and realized her post-doctorate at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ON, Canada) with Prof. Terry Bidleman and Prof. Derek Muir. She is a Professor in Environmental Engineering Department at the Bursa Technical University, Bursa, Turkey. She also was a visiting scientist at Canada Center for Inland Waters (CCIW) (Burlington, ON) of Environment and Climate Change of Canada in 2017 and at Canada Center for Atmospheric Research Experiments (CARE) of Environment and Climate Change of Canada in 2018. She acts as a consultant to various international companies on environmental impact assessment, consultancy on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH) and Turkish Reach (KKDIK) as well as acting as a consultant to local companies on the treatment and remediation of soil in contaminated sites. She also carries out consultancy services to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on the development of national implementation plan on persistent organic pollutants. Prof. Kurt-Karakus’ research focuses on determination and fate assessment of persistent organic chemicals/micropollutants including Stockholm Convention chemicals, current use pesticides, chiral legacy and current use organic chemicals, halogenated and phosphated flame retardants, industrial chemicals, heavy metals using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Her research also covers indoor and outdoor exposure to contaminants and exposure risk assessment, occupational exposure risk assessment, transport of contaminants in water, air and soil and studies on water-air, soil-air interface, laboratory scale experimental designs to assess the fate of chemicals in the environment, active and passive sampling techniques of contaminants in air, water and soil.
