On February 24, 2023, the Editorial Office of the Journal of Smart Environments and Green Computing (JSEGC) had the honor of interviewing one of the journal's Associate Editors, Prof. Josep M. Guerrero, from Aalborg University, Denmark. During the interview, Prof. Guerrero provided valuable insights into the ongoing advancements in microgrid technology and how he combines knowledge from energy engineering and neuroscience to drive future research.

Prof. Josep M. Guerrero (a Fellow of IEEE) hails from the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University, Denmark. He holds the esteemed positions of founder and director of the Microgrid Center. His research interests primarily focus on various aspects of microgrids, including power electronics, distributed energy storage systems, hierarchical and cooperative control, energy management systems, smart metering, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These topics are applied to AC/DC microgrid clusters, islanded mini-grids, and maritime microgrids for electric ships, vessels, ferries, and seaports. His research in the field of microgrids and renewable energy systems has resulted in numerous highly cited papers, with over 70,000 citations to his credit. Prof. Guerrero has been recognized as a "Highly Cited Researcher" by Clarivate Analytics for nine consecutive years, from 2014 to 2022.

The recording of this interview can be found below:

Q1: Could you please introduce the current development of microgrids? (0'05'')
Q2: In your research, you show particular interest in many (developing) countries that optimize generation/grid systems. What do you think are the main characters/gaps in these regions? (1'00'')
Q3: In scientific research and daily life, it is not always possible to consistently achieve our desired targets; how do you overcome negativity in such situations? (3'24'')
Q4: Do you have any advice for young researchers in the future work of microgrids? (5'25'')
Q5: We noticed that you have started studying neuroscience. What kind of opportunity led you to venture into this new field? (6'47'')
Q6: Could you please reveal how you plan to use your knowledge in energy engineering and neuroscience to maximize the value of your current and future research in these two fields? (9'42'')
