Bio
Dr. Sundus Erbas-Cakmak obtained her BSc degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2007 from Bogazici University in Istanbul. She completed her PhD thesis work (2013) in Materials Science and Nanotechnology from Bilkent University, under the supervision of Prof. Engin U. Akkaya, investigating use of advanced molecular logic gates for the activity modulation of photodynamic therapy agents. She worked on fluorescent anion sensors under the supervision of Prof. Amar H. Flood in Indiana University for 6 months during her PhD She joined Prof. David A. Leigh’s group at the University of Manchester as a Marie-Curie Intra-European Post-Doctoral Fellow (2013-2016) and there she worked on molecular machines and rotaxane catalysts. She has been awarded L’oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award (2018) and Science Academy Young Scientist Award (2019). She has published academic papers (including Science, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc. and more) and review articles (Chem. Rev., Chem. Soc. Rev., Coord. Chem. Rev.).

She is currently an Assistant Professor at Konya Food and Agriculture University. Her research interests include development of smart information processing therapeutic devices, artificial molecular machines, artificial enzymes, supramolecular catalysis, and molecular logic gates.
