Bio
Dr. Giuliano Giambastiani (gender: male, date and place of birth: 31/08/1970, Florence – Italy) graduated in Chemistry cum laude in 1997 from the University of Florence and received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Florence (Italy) and the University of Pierre et Marie curie – Paris IV (France) in 2000 under the joint supervision of Prof. Giovanni Poli and Prof. Max Malacria. After spending a period as Premier Assistant à la Faculté des Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Carlo Floriani and a subsequent post-doctoral position at the University of Milan under the supervision of Prof. Carlo Scolastico, he joined in 2002 the ICCOM group (Institute of Chemistry of OrganoMetallic Compounds of the Italian National Research Council – ICCOM-CNR, www.iccom.cnr.it) where he held the position of Senior Researcher since 2007.

His current scientific activity spans from organic and organometallic synthesis and catalysis (homogeneous and heterogeneous) to the preparation and characterization of technologically advanced materials and composites based on functionalized carbon nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene-oxide and fullerenes. He is author of more than 100 scientific contributions (communications, full-papers, reviews) in peer-reviewed journals, 4 books and 6 book chapters and 13 patents (8 with international application – WO). His works received more than 2100 citations and his activity is ranked with an H index of 24 (Scopus Database source). He has presented his scientific results in more than 60 national and international congresses and he was Invited Speaker (invited, keynote and Young Plenary lecturer) in more than 20 international scientific events.

He was officially involved, since 2001, in 18 national and international (FP5, FP6, FP7) scientific projects, 7 of which (4 international and 2 national) as ICCOM Scientific Coordinator/Responsible: 1) CNR-RAS (2008-2010); 2) Homogeneous Catalysis for Sustainable Development” European Research Networks – GDRI project for the integrated and sustainable trilateral cooperation between Italy (CNR)-Russia (RAS)-France (CNRS) (2008-2015); 3) NANOCELL (nanosensors and nanodevices in cells) – Regional grant (2011-2013); 4) FreeCats – Doped carbon nanostructures as metal-free catalysts – Small or medium scale focused research projects – FP7, NMP-2011-2.2-4 Novel materials for replacement of strategic or scarce raw materials (platinum group metals and rare earths) (2012-2015); 5) NanoMAX – Encoder – Engineering Nanostructures for Cellular imaging and for intracellular delivery of Optically active Drugs for cardiac hypERtrophy (Flag project NanoMAX, 2012-2014) ; 6) “CRYSTALLINE ELASTOMERS” – Novel polyolefin based elastomers with tailored stiffness from metallorganic catalysis – Fondazione CARIPLO project (2014-2016); 7) NANoREG – A common European approach to the regulatory testing of Manufactured Nanomaterials” EU Framework 7 Programme (2013-2017).
