On November 13, 2023, the Editorial Office of our journal, Metabolism and Target Organ Damage (M&TOD), had the honor of engaging in a discussion with Dr. Tatiana Y. Kostrominova, our newly joined Editorial Board member. We extend a warm welcome to her for joining our team. In this exclusive interview, Dr. Kostrominova shared valuable insights into the crucial fields of anatomy and cell biology. She elucidated the most challenging research directions in the field of denervation of skeletal muscles, shared how her diverse educational research background shaped her integrative and unique perspective, and expressed her views on the Special Issue "Skeletal Muscle Metabolism: Regulation, Adaptation, and Health". Finally, she offered constructive suggestions for our journal’s development. Overall, this interview provided us with a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge research dynamics in anatomy and cell biology research.

Questions for this interview:

1. Your research delves into the activation of SERCA, the impact of Metformin, and the influence of enhanced muscle tone on gene expression in unloaded muscles. How do you see these findings translating into practical implications for the development of treatments targeting muscle wasting?

2. In your article, you provided a comprehensive review of the history of skeletal muscle denervation and outlined future directions. From your perspective, what are the most challenging or noteworthy research directions in this field?

3. Your education and career have traversed various disciplines and institutions. How has this diverse background shaped your unique perspective on the convergence of cell biology and anatomy in your research and teaching?

4. Recently, you accepted our invitation to lead the Special Issue "Skeletal Muscle Metabolism: Regulation, Adaptation, and Health". What are your thoughts on this special issue topic? Do you believe it's a current hot topic in research, and do you anticipate significant expert contributions?

5. We extend a warm welcome to you as a member of our Editorial Board. Your participation will undoubtedly enrich our publication. Despite being launched in 2021, our journal has been indexed by Scopus and is undergoing evaluation in the ESCI database. With an anticipated first impact factor in June next year, do you have any suggestions for the continued development of our journal?
