Special Issue Introduction

Humans are exposed to various ubiquitous pro-oxidative stressors, encompassing environmental carcinogens, ultraviolet radiation (UVR), pollutants such as cigarette smoke, and even therapeutic agents such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, photodynamic therapy, and targeted therapy. These pro-oxidative stressors, by inciting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), modulate host immune responses and predispose individuals to systemic immunosuppression. This immunosuppression stands as a critical factor,  not only fostering the growth of pre-existing cancer but also impacting the efficacy of therapeutic agents. This impact occurs through mechanisms that give rise to the development of tumor resistance mechanisms. Drawing upon your expertise in related fields, we are pleased to invite you to contribute to a Special Issue topic on “Pro-oxidative Stressors Impacting Cancer Growth and Efficacy of Therapeutic Agents”. This Special Issue aims to publish original research or reviews articles on the roles and mechanisms of a wide range of pro-oxidative stressors, including but not limited to the ones mentioned above, as they relate to impacting tumor microenvironment, cancer growth, and efficacy of therapeutic agents, as well as approaches to mitigate such effects and improve the effectiveness of anti-cancer agents. Importantly, in this Special Issue, the research areas may include, among other topics: investigations into combined chemotherapeutic agents, repurposed drugs, dietary phytochemicals, and targeted therapies utilizing various cancer models.

Keywords
