Special Issue Introduction

Since their initial discovery in the early 1990s, mesoporous materials have garnered significant attention due to their unique structural functions, leading to a surge in their diverse applications. Over the last three decades, mesoporous materials have evolved from being primarily silica and carbon-based to encompass functional oxides and metals. Consequently, their range of uses has extended to include catalysis and energy-related applications. Meanwhile, mesoporous structures and pore sizes have been precisely controlled to optimize their physicochemical properties and enhance catalytic performance. Moreover, mesoporous materials have been demonstrated to provide confinement nanoenvironments that change the chemisorption properties of reactants and thus optimize catalytic selectivity for several important reactions. In this Special Issue, we will mainly focus on the development of functional mesoporous materials with various compositions, morphologies, structures, and pore sizes. Additionally, we will explore the applications of mesoporous materials in catalysis and energy-related fields. We expect this Special Issue will assist readers in finding their respective solutions related to functional mesoporous materials.

Specific areas to be covered include, but are not limited to:

● Synthesis of mesoporous materials;

● Characterization of mesoporous materials;

● Functionality of mesoporous materials;

● Mesoporous materials for catalysis;

● Mesoporous materials for electrocatalysis;

● Mesoporous materials for energy applications.
