Special Issue Introduction
Cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and vascular dementia, are a growing public health concern with significant social and economic implications. Unfortunately, the therapeutic options for these conditions remain limited and often ineffective, largely due to a lack of understanding of the underlying mechanisms and early detection strategies.
Recent advances in molecular and imaging techniques have enabled the identification of several biomarkers associated with cognitive disorders, providing valuable insight into the underlying mechanisms and neuroprotective therapies. In addition, epidemiological studies have shed light on risk factors and potential preventative measures for cognitive disorders. Furthermore, new treatment approaches such as gene therapy, stem cell therapy, and immune-based therapies have shown promise in preclinical studies and clinical trials, offering hope for improved patient outcomes.
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on topics including but not limited to the identification of novel biomarkers, the role of genetics and environmental risk factors in disease pathogenesis, the prevalence in different populations, advances in molecular mechanism, and emerging therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases and other cognitive disorders.
