Special Issue Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prominent across various domains, particularly with the continuous introduction of innovative technologies that are ushering in the era of Surgery 4.0. Meanwhile, AI is making significant inroads into supporting surgical education, offering remarkable potential benefits to both learners and educators. However, it is imperative to navigate the moral and ethical dimensions when integrating AI into both surgical education and the realm of emerging surgical technologies.

This Special Issue is dedicated to a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted issues concerning AI in surgery, encompassing education, new technologies, and ethical considerations. The topics covered herein include but are not limited to:
1. Artificial intelligence in surgical education and training(learning curve);
2. Big data science for surgical education;
3. Virtual reality simulators/Surgical coaching/Serious gaming for training;
4. Ethical considerations inherent to surgical education and training;
5. Questionnaire survey: Necessity of establishing interdisciplinary specialty of artificial intelligence surgery in universities.
